Prediction of Cracking Susceptibility of Commercial Aluminum Alloys during Solidification

Cracking during solidification is a complex phenomenon which has been investigated from various angles for decades using both experimental and theoretical methods. In this paper, cracking susceptibility was by simulation method three series of aluminum alloys: AA2xxx, AA6xxx, AA7xxx alloys. The tool developed the CALPHAD readily applicable to multicomponent alloy systems. For each alloys, susceptible index values were calculated more than 1000 compositions high-throughput calculation. maps then constructed these alloys simulated results. effects major minor alloying elements clearly demonstrated maps. cooling rate effect also studied, it concluded that back diffusion in solid can significantly improve susceptibility.
